Shanghai Guyi Garden is located in Nanxiang Ancient Town, Jiading District, covering an area of about 146 acres, is one of the five classical gardens in Shanghai.

The Ancient Yi Garden was built in the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1522-1566), formerly known as Yi Garden. Later, in the eleventh year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1746), it was renamed Guyi Garden.

The Guyi Park is dominated by bamboo, supplemented by curved water, flower-stone paths and various buildings, forming a unique Jiangnan garden style.


Guyi Garden History and Facts

The history of the Guyi Garden can be traced back to the Ming Dynasty. It was carefully designed by Zhu Sansong, a famous bamboo carving artist. When it was first built, it was a grand scale of A garden of ten acres and A house of five acres.

After many changes of owners and repairs, the Guyi Garden reached its peak during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. Ye Jin, a native of Dongting Mountain, bought it and built pavilions and expand the garden base.

In recent years, Guyi Garden has been repaired and protected for many times, to ensure the continuation of its original historical appearance.

Gu Yi Yuan is divided into four major scenic spots: Yi Garden (old garden), Flower Fragrance Park, Crane in Stream Pond, and Moonlit Bamboo Park.

Yiye Hall: As the main building of the garden, Yiye Hall is elegant and grand. Facing the Goose Pond and backed by bamboo forests, it is an excellent location to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the garden.

General Info of Gu Yi Garden

The opening hours of Gu Yi Garden are adjusted according to the seasons:

From March to November: The south gate is open from 7:00-18:30, and the north gate is open from 5:30-19:30.

From December to February: The south gate is open from 7:00-19:00, and the north gate is open from 6:00-17:00.

The ticket price of Gu Yi Garden is RMB 12 yuan per person.
